President

As a managing partner David is responsible for setting strategic goals, overseeing the development and construction process for all Laulima’s projects.

David’s primary responsibilities are to evaluate new development opportunities through strategic acquisition of projects with an emphasis on development opportunities and value enhancement.  David oversees all aspects of the project, from entitlement, negotiating governmental agreements, developing a leasing strategy, and development management.  With over 20 years of extensive development and construction experience in mixed-use urban real estate development.

Having served as the Senior Director for notable mixed-use projects such as Bay Street Emeryville, Santana Row, The Historic Guasti District in Ontario, CA and the Ballpark Village in Fremont, CA.

David holds a Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction Technology from the School of Construction Management at Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), and a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

Director of Planning and Design

As co-founder, Jes leads the planning and design of all Laulima Development projects. Jes helps establish development strategies and ensures that each project achieves Laulima’s high planning and design standards.

For the past 30 years, Jes has had pioneering role in mixed-use development worldwide. He established new directions for the retail industry and mixed-use development, laying the groundwork for shopping environments and development strategies that have since become industry standards.

His passion and skill for creating extraordinary mixed-use designs are evident from his early work on projects such as Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade, to his work as Director of Design for George Lucas’s Skywalker Development Company.

Founding his own companies, MSB and Slavik Design, Jes contributed to the success of prominent projects including; the Crown Resort in Melbourne Australia for Hudson Conway; Santana Row in San Jose, CA, for Federal Real Estate Investment Trust; Bay Street in Emeryville, CA for Madison Marquette; and the resurgence of Alvarado Street in downtown Monterey, CA.

Jes holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California – Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
